We're back!

An and I have settled our differences and brought back the site. You'll get a new site to enjoy each Friday remaining in the 2016 Summer Olympics; today's posting is below. Thanks and enjoy!

Your world. Delivered.

"Google Maps is the best. True Dat. Double true." — Saturday Night Live

There are 6 billion people in the world. You'll never scratch the surface of knowing about all but a fraction of a percentage of them. It's kind of a sad realization, really. But thanks to the advances of modern technology — and today's Your Daily Click — you have the chance to get a step closer.

The site, Mibazaar, gives you a random dose of the world each day. They're always interesting and use Google Maps to deliver an daily nugget of information. Enjoy.

Check, please!

"Sometimes you go to a nice restaurant, they put the check in a little book. What is this? The story of the bill? 'Once upon a time, there were some very hungry people..' What is this? A little gold tassle hanging down? Am I graduating from the restaurant? What is this about?" — Jerry Seinfeld

Food. It's so good and so good for you. I don't think I'd be the same without it in my life each day. But as tasty as it is, it can get very expensive. That's where Your Daily Click helps you out. It's a way to purchase gift certificates to some restaurants in your area at deep discounts — you can buy $25 worth of food at a place near you for just $10.

The places aren't chain restaurants, and you've probably never heard of many of them. But cheap food is invariably good food. Thanks to Don for submitting this site. Enjoy.

Those who live in glass houses...

Best known for their fine chocolates and refusal to enter wars, Switzerland also has another tradition many people aren't aware of. It's called Unspunnen, a festival of competition held in this country with the square flag. One of the highlights of the festival is Steinstossen, a word that is deceptively easy to translate. The game is simple: the Swiss simply tossen the steins (stones) as far as they can.

The 83.5kg stones (about 184 pounds) are lifted over the head and tossed after a short run. It's basically an awkward version of shotput. The record? About 12 feet.

You can do much better than that in today's Your Daily Click. It's a portal to a new world in which all there is to do is team up with two of your buddies and toss small stones at three enemies until one side is victorious. Enjoy.

Plain fun

"I bet the main reason the police keep people away from a plane crash is they don't want anybody walking in and lying down in the crash stuff, then, when somebody comes up, act like they just woke up and go, 'What was THAT?!'" - Jack Handy

When the ancient Egyptians discovered that they could layer the stems of the papyrus plant to form sheets of paper, the world changed forever. By utilizing a series of folds, the Egyptians were able to construct simple flying machines capable of occupying their lazy 3000 BC afternoons. Also, you could write on the stuff.

Today's Your Daily Click gives you the opportunity to practice this ancient exercise in unproductiveness in the most lethargic possible way: at your computer. Choose a plane type and customize the components to build your own simple flying machine. Fly solo on the practice fields or challenge a friend. Enjoy.

Worldwide suicide

Yesterday we looked at a site that is trying to help save the world one search at a time. Today's Your Daily Click gives you a site that showcases those who are working to destroy the world one terrorist act at a time.

It's a "global display of terrorism and other suspicious events," and it's very interesting. Look at the entire world and see dozens of major incidents. Zoom in on the United States and see just how many bomb threats are received every week. In the U.S. it has gotten so common that national news outlets won't report on a "boring" bomb threat.

Thanks to Lily for this very interesting site. Oh, and please click here for Lily's blog — it's a great read. Enjoy.

Watts up?

"Ahh, Earth Day, the only day of the year where being able to hacky-sack will get you laid." — Jon Stewart

Yesterday was Earth Day. The sun was shining, and the trees were soaking up the rays. It's a beautiful sight, but it's easy to forget the importance of Earth Day during the other 364 days of the year.

So what are you doing to save the world? Are you recycling? That's not good enough. Do you use energy-saving light bulbs? Try harder. Have you considered the amount of energy you waste by using Google? Stop. Think. Your Daily Click.

The idea is that your computer uses more energy to produce white on the screen than it does to produce black. So if you are a frequent "Google" user (and who isn't?) you're wasting a lot of energy. What are you waiting for? Grab some aerosol spray paint and tell the world about Blackle! Enjoy.

Monkey business

On a recent episode of Family Feud, contestants were challenged to guess the most popular answer to the following question asked to 100 people: "Name something fun." When the first contestant buzzed in, you could see the excitement on his face as he blurted out "A barrel of monkeys!"

...sometimes I lose faith in our public education system.

Sure, his response was on the board, but as you all well know, there are many things more fun than a barrel of monkeys. The most popular answer, of course, was today's Your Daily Click, a jackpot of new levels of balloons that need a good old-fashioned popping. New special balloons and more frustrating arrangements are sure to make this a productive Friday. Enjoy.

Bring the house down

"Nobody untrained in geometry may enter my house." - Plato

You've all heard the story of the three little pigs and how they each built a house out of a different material in order to protect themselves from the shrewd wolf. But what most people don't know is that in addition to his cunning (and his remarkable ability to walk on his hind legs), the wolf was also a real whiz with three-dimensional puzzles.

Today's Your Daily Click challenges you to build a structure that conforms to the provided drawings of the front, right, and top faces. However, being a time of war, you may use only the minimum number of blocks. Enjoy.

Falling in love

Tracy Jordan: "I'm gonna make you a mix tape. You like Phil Collins?"
Jack: "I've got two ears and a heart, don't I?" — 30 Rock

Life is full of decisions. Some are easy — like what to have for breakfast each morning or what you want to do with your life. Others are just a roll of the dice — like whether you should marry, boff or kill Paris Hilton. It's the really hard decision slike the latter one that are the basis for Your Daily Click. With split-second speed you must choose the fate that may impact your life. No pressure. Enjoy.

Dry (erase) humor

Who among us doesn't love the dry erase marker? From the sniffing addict to the schoolteacher, it's a clear winner. It's so colorful and real — but so temporary. If only everything in life could be so easily erased as if it never existed. But I'm rambling. Today's site really isn't even about dry erase markers.

It's a site that uses them though. Miranda July has come up with a creative way to market her upcoming book. I'm not suggesting you buy the book. Heck, I don't even know what it's about. I am suggesting you check out this site. Obviously. Why else would I have it as today's Your Daily Click? Enjoy.

Say goodbye to your phone book

Remember those days when you would need an address or a stock quote while you were out? You would either be forced to track down a phone book or fly to New York to look at the rolling stock tickers on Wall Street. Well those days are gone thanks to Your Daily Click.

You may be familiar with this relatively small site called Google and all of its wonder, but did you know that you can send Google text messages? It's a free service (though your carrier may charge you for receiving text messages).

Give it a try. Text the name of your favorite sports team to Google (466453) and it will send you the scores of the two recent games and the time and date of the next one. Text the movie you want to see and a ZIP code and you'll get showtimes in your cell phone's inbox. Text "capital of Indonesia" and it will send you the answer. That would be perfect if you're ever on "Millionaire" or something.

Convinced yet? It's Google Mobile. It's a calculator, currency converter, weatherman, language translator, air traffic controller and more. Enjoy.

The writing on the wall

If you've seen PostSecret, you know how interesting it can be to read true stories about people you've never met. Some are funny, some are a little scary, but all of them make you think. Your Daily Click takes that idea of sending messages on postcards and makes it a little more modern — though less artistic.

The concept is simple. Submit a true story to this site but tell it in one sentence. It's an exercise in brevity and bravery. Enjoy.

Famous pairs

"I have been Michael's #2 guy for about 5 years. And we make a great team. We're like one of those classic famous teams. He's like Mozart, and I'm like Mozart's friend. No. I'm like Butch Cassidy, and Michael is like Mozart. You try and hurt Mozart; you're going to get a bullet in your head courtesy of Butch Cassidy." — Dwight Schrute, "The Office"

In every celebrity pairing, there's always one person who stands out. There's inevitably going to be someone who is slightly, well, famouser. That's where Your Daily Click comes in. It tests your ability to pick out the bigger celebrity from the pairing.

Some are easy: Oprah Winfrey vs. Andy Dick.

Some aren't so easy: Susan Sarandon vs. Jack Black (Black wins that one in an upset)

Some are just a coin flip, really. So give it a try and see how many you can get right in a row. Each answer you get wrong helps improve their ranking process. Enjoy.

Grin and bear it

"There's what we expect bears to do and then there's what they do. Sometimes the two don't match." - Joe Clark

Bears. We've all heard horror stories about bears mauling small children or attacking innocent old women. Just reading the word "bears" is enough to send chills down your spine. But, let's not be too quick to judge. Some bears have a conscience and are of benefit to our society. Winnie the Pooh, the Care Bears, Baloo from the Jungle Book, just to name a few.

And then you have Your Daily Click. Take control of these bears who have been specially trained to wear silly costumes and walk upright. Rescue the hostages and stop the evil groundhogs from robbing the bank. Enjoy.

Copy machine

Can two different peoples living in two distinct regions each invent the same thing, like the wheel? The question that has plagued scientists for years has finally been answered. The verdict: Maybe. Today's Your Daily Click, called "Your Daily Awesome," sounds a little familiar, don't you think?

What's ironic is that the site's post today is about plagiarism. But all joking aside, his site is different from mine in many ways, and it has some really weird/interesting/cool things to look at. As Lily would say, "It is very art focused but eclectic in style." Just what I was thinking; I guess she's copying my ideas too.

Is there enough room on the Internet for two "Your Daily ______"s? We will soon know. Enjoy, and thanks to Lily for this great submission.

You feel lucky, punk?

Well, do ya? We all have dreamed of being rock stars at some point in our lives. For some, the dream manifests in the shower or through video games, but others need a different outlet. Your Daily Click gives you that chance for your musical creativity to really shine. Can you handle the pressure of controlling a punk band? Enjoy.

Slice of life

Remember when someone wanted to show you what they did on a recent vacation and you'd gather around their coffee table and flip through pages of scrapbooks or photo albums? That is so 1999. Your Daily Click welcomes you to the new century with the work of photographer George Lange. This short film goes through his excellent photography. He mixes well-known stars (can you spot Kobe Bryant or Clive Owen?) with everyday people. It moves kind of fast, so don't you dare blink. Enjoy.

Got some time to kill?

"A 30-year mortgage at Michael’s age essentially means that he’s buying a coffin. If I were buying my coffin, I would get one with thicker walls so you couldn’t hear the other dead people." — Dwight Schrute in "The Office"

If you've ever worked in an office you were surrounded by average supplies that you probably assumed were harmless. I mean, how could a photocopier hurt you? Well, it's time to find out with Your Daily Click. You're an office worker, and the goal is to walk around the office to find things to kill yourself with — in five minutes or less. Once you lose 100 life points, by hitting yourself with a stapler or electrocuting yourself, for example, you win. Use the arrow keys to move and press the spacebar to "activate" an item. Enjoy.

There's a Fine, Fine Line

"The men who have succeeded are men who have chosen one line and stuck to it." - Andrew Carnegie

Back in elementary school math class, we all learned that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. But surely you have all wondered if this logic still applies if it is a narrow curvy path blocked by traps and spinning obstacles. Well, that is the question, and today's Your Daily Click is the answer. Navigate your way through these tunnels with your mouse or keyboard to reach the green circle at the end. Enjoy.

Tiny terrors

Horror movies are a staple of American culture. And inside every haunted house, creepy closet or scary shed is the object of the audience's fear. Usually it's an overpowering man, but the feminists decided to take over at some indeterminable time in Hollywood. That's when women took over and decided that little girls can be scary too. So, if you're ready, Your Daily Click brings you a test of your knowledge of these girly goblins. Enjoy.

What are you doing?

All across the world there are people you'll never meet. Billions of them. Their lives begin and end without you ever knowing they existed. Today's Your Daily Click takes a small chunk out of that problem. It allows you to watch in real time as people around the world answer the simple question: "What are you doing?" It will then map their location for you, whether it's Milwaukee or Madrid, New York or New Delhi. Enjoy.
