Back in the 1950s, an age we now refer to as the Happy Days, cool kids would call the smart kids "squares", to which the smart kids would reply, "Actually, a square is the second power of a quantity." This upset the cool kids, and needless to say, the "squares" did not consider those Days to be particularly Happy. [Editor's note: A square is also a rectangle having all four sides of equal length.]
