We're back!

An and I have settled our differences and brought back the site. You'll get a new site to enjoy each Friday remaining in the 2016 Summer Olympics; today's posting is below. Thanks and enjoy!

Domino Effect

Ever stop and ponder just what those spots on the domino pieces represent? I did a little research and found out the the dots represent numbers and are used in the many variations of domino games. Shrug.

The only game I ever knew how to play with dominos involved standing the dominos on their edges in a series of lines and then knocking over the lead domino. Today's Your Daily Click takes that pastime to another level. The point of this game is to start as long a chain reaction as possible with one click of the mouse. So simple, yet so strangely addicting. Enjoy.

You bet!

Betting on sports or Oscar winners is so last century. This century is all about betting on the future. Today's Your Daily Click takes that to the extreme. The site allows people to make predictions about future events and put money behind their predictions. Once someone wants to counter that argument, a bet is formed.

The winner of the bet doesn't get any money, he or she only gets the pride and recognition of being right. All proceeds go to a charity designated by the winner.

An example of an accepted bet: "By 2030, commercial passengers will routinely fly in pilotless planes." If it's true, $2,000 will go to the charity of Craig Mundie's choosing, and if it's false, Eric Schmidt's charity will get the cash. The two men both made arguments about their claim, and the site will donate the money when 2030 rolls around.

But then there are predictions that aren't yet bets (and may never be), like this one: "By the year 2150, over 50% of schools in the USA or Western Europe will require classes in defending against robot attacks." Who knows if that will ever be challenged. If it ever is, the bettors will be long gone, but Long Bets will still be there to donate the winnings.

Thanks to Lily for this really great link. You can really spend a lot of time at this site. Enjoy.

Book smarts

The problem is common. You're so busy with work or school that you really don't have time to read for pleasure during the work/school week. But for some reason you read dozens (or hundreds) of e-mails each day, many of which are meaningless. What if I told you you could combine the two, is that something you might be interested in? Your Daily Click gives you that chance.

The site uses books that are in the public domain or are license-free and gives you them in daily installments sent to your e-mail for a five-minute read. A book like "Dracula" read in five-minute snippets five days a week would take about 37 weeks, but you can change the subscription frequency if you want to finish the book faster than that. Thanks to Lily for this selection. Enjoy.

Point and shoot

Great photography makes journalism soar. Without it, all you get is colorless pages of text. These photographers tells stories using photos, and if a picture is worth a thousand words, the photos of Your Daily Click today use those words brilliantly. Enjoy, and thanks to Lily for today's selection.

Spoil me rotten

Are you the kind who would rather sit down with a book than sit in a stuffy movie theater for two hours? I'm not, but if you are, today's Your Daily Click is for you. The site gives you the synopsis (including spoilers) of hundreds of films, including almost all that are currently in theaters. Now you can tell your friends you saw a movie you didn't actually see — all from the comfort of your couch. Or if you have to walk out of a movie for some reason, you can find out the ending without having to shell out another $8. This site will give you great powers; use it responsibly. Enjoy.

Surfing the Tube

"I'm always irritated by that effect of watching TV late at night. You're watching TV, it's getting late, you're getting tired, you're starting to fall asleep. You think to yourself, 'I could get into bed, go to sleep right now.' But, I don't. I don't go to bed. I fight sleep and continue searching for entertainment." - Jerry Seinfeld

In yet another example of art imitating life, today's Your Daily Click brings the age-old tradition of channel surfing on your tube to YouTube. Just click on the "Stumble!" button at the bottom of the page and it will load a random video. You can vote whether or not you liked the video and you will "Stumble!" upon more (or less) of that type of video. Enjoy.

Let's do lunch

Your stomach growls, and it's pretty easy to interpret what it wants: food — immediately. If you're by yourself, you can microwave something in the kitchen, but if you're with a group that won't fly. You must go out. But where? The cuisine question causes quite a conundrum. For the answer, look to Your Daily Click and a simple game of chance. Enter your ZIP code, spin the wheel, and off you go. Enjoy.

File sharing

Hate trying to send your friends your photos or songs via e-mail? Stupid e-mail programs will only let you e-mail a certain amount of content, and it always seems to mess up on the receiving end. Well look no further than Your Daily Click, which allows you to create "Tubes" through which you can view your buddies' pictures, movies, songs, etc., in an easy-to-use format. Give it a try; it's free. Enjoy.

Latest and greatest

OK, Night Owls, here's something for you. With all of the late-night TV out there now, it's hard to keep track of when your favorite celebrities are going to be on Leno, Letterman, Conan, etc. Today's Your Daily Click has you covered. It's a one-stop shop for this information. Enjoy.

Love notes

Happy Valentine's Day, all you amorous fiends. In honor of this fake holiday, Your Daily Click presents you with an instant song generator. It will fill in the words of a made-up love song with the name and characteristics of the object of your affection. Previews are free, but actually sending the song costs $5. I'd recommend just sticking with the preview. Enjoy.

Have it your way

Love music but don't want to drop $1 per track or $10 for a CD? Well, put your headphones on and point your browser to Your Daily Click. It's like Pandora, which I showed you a while ago, but it's better. You can have it make a playlist of your favorite artists, or you can make your own playlist. You have to select at least 45 songs and it will play them in a random order. Also, you can't skip between tracks. But this is better than Pandora because you don't specify an artist — you tell them the exact songs you want to hear. Do you have 45 songs you like? Enjoy.

[Update: You can skip between tracks. Even better. Thanks, An. You can check out An's great playlist here.]

Heavens, no!

Well, I hope you went to church yesterday, because today's Your Daily Click is anything but religious. If God had a computer, what would be on it? Find out in this game that is wrong on several levels. Don't worry, you won't be too offended. Enjoy.

You're cheep

OK, so you're ordering at amazon.com like any good consumer, but then you get to the checkout page and realize your total is $24.99. You know what that means? You need to add one penny to your order to get free shipping. Instead of buying something you don't need, give Your Daily Click a try. It will help knock your total just barely over $25. Enjoy.

Noise makers

Who doesn't dream of being a music star? Perhaps you dominate Guitar Hero 2, or maybe you sing in front of your stuffed animals and pretend they are Randy, Simon and Paula. Or maybe you limit your melodies to the privacy and acoustic splendor of the shower. Whatever your fancy, Your Daily Click has you covered. It's a collection of fun, noise-making games. Make sure you're in a place where you can rock out your speakers before letting this one fly. Be sure to try out the shower singer and the guitarist. They're the best. Enjoy.

... and Found

Sorry for the late post, loyal Daily Clickers, but I was lost in work and school today. Speaking of "Lost," Your Daily Click today provides a new look at a very unique show. It's the Society for the Study of "Lost." How many shows can actually claim that people study its very existence and quarrel over the meanings of the most (seemingly) minor details? Enjoy.

Down to Earth

It's easy to forget that your close circle of friends is only a tiny drop of water in the vast ocean of humanity. Today's Your Daily Click puts that into perspective for you with a short, informative flash video. It won't change your life or anything, but it's an interesting way to look at the world if it were shrunk down to 100 people. Enjoy.

Paper cuts

With "Transformers: The Movie" coming July 4, it's only natural to remember back to the good old days when choosing which action figures to buy at the local Toys "R" Us was the toughest decision of your life. Today's Your Daily Click lets you have a similar kind of fun, but in a more grown-up way. Make everyone's favorite Transformer, Optimus Prime, in the do-it-yourself way that would make your art teacher proud. Enjoy.
